imperceptibilities
act I

journeying towards that which is missed

Curated by Ioanna Gerakidi

imperceptibilities act I is a video and sound project exploring relationships between humanity and the natural world through invasive human forays in the sea commons. A series of filmic and sonic fragments emerge as manifestations of calamity of humancentric activity disrupting marine processes of navigation, mating, hunting, and survival. Approaching sites that serve as indicative of the highest degrees of sonic disruption, the work negotiates access to geographical locations of underwater drilling, storage and transportation at oil and gas wells in Eleusis, Greece. Initally developed during a 3-month residency in Athens, the work seeks to access forbidden locations at oil and gas refineries registering watchful encounters under CCTV cameras, armed security guards and elaborate fencing structures surrounding what has been proclaimed as sites of national interest.
