whisper orbits: imperceptibilities act I is a video and sound project that explores underwater noise pollution as a direct result of human activity. A series of filmic fragments emerge to voice concerns on behalf of marine life towards extremities of anthropocentric activity disrupting marine processes of navigation, mating, hunting, and, ultimately, survival. Investigating sites that serve as indicative of the highest degrees of sonic disruption, the work approaches geographical locations of underwater drilling, storage and transportation at oil and gas wells. Initally developed during a 3-month residency in Athens, Gr, the work attempts to gain access to forbidden locations of Greek oil and gas wells registering watchful encounters under CCTV cameras, armed security guards and metal fences surrounding what has been proclaimed sites of ‘national interest’.
