imperceptibilities
act I

journeying towards that which is missed
Curated by Ioanna Gerakidi

imperceptibilities act I is a video and sound project exploring underwater noise pollution as direct result of human activity in the sea commons. A series of filmic fragments emerge to voice concerns on behalf of marine life towards extremities of humancentric activity disrupting marine processes of navigation, mating, hunting, and, ultimately, survival. Investigating sites that serve as indicative of the highest degrees of sonic disruption, the work approaches geographical locations of underwater drilling, storage and transportation at oil and gas wells. Initally developed during a 3-month residency in Athens, GR, the work attempts to gain access to forbidden locations at Greek oil and gas refineries while registering watchful encounters under CCTV cameras, armed security guards and metal fences surrounding what has been proclaimed as sites of national interest.
